The Program:

Guests at the Fine Art & Fine Wine Evening will sample six wines from Fanagoria Winery, one of Russia’s largest modern wineries.  Fanagoria is located in Sennoi village on the Taman peninsula on Russia’s northern Black Sea coast.

John Harrison, a British artist who has lived in Moscow since the 1980s will be exhibiting recent works and a selection of paintings and drawings from the 1990s and 2000s.

The ticket price includes a sample of each wine and wine with snacks including cheese, fruit and bread.  Guests may separately order food and drink from the SousSol menu.

Presenters will include:

Maria Matiashova, Master of Ceremonies

Maria is a sommelier, wine Technologist and professional wine presenter from Novorossiysk on Russia’s Black Sea Coast Maria was formerly Chief Sommelier at The Finch, the Azbuka Vkusa restaurant in Moscow Citi.  She currently conducts popular weekly wine education evenings in Novorossiysk.


John Harrison, artist

Born in London, John attended Camberwell School or Art and St. Martin’s College of Art where he studied Fine Art.

In Moscow, he worked as a graphic designer and exhibited in Moscow, including a show at the Moscow Academy of Arts in 2008. John worked in China from 2006-2008, and exhibited in Beijing in 2008. He has been a member of the Творческий Союз Художников России since 1992.

In the 2000s, John worked as an editor for various English language publications, whilst continuing his artistic career which was always his main priority.

Currently he works as a part time teacher of Media Studies at Brookes School, and helps prepare Russian students to enter UAL Art Schools in London. He is now actively working as a painter, and exhibits in Moscow. 


Charles W. Borden

Charles is author of Russian Wine Country: Sleeping Beauty Awakens (2014) and recently Benchmarks of Civilization (2022).  He is managing editor of Finance Plus, which owns the largest set of LinkedIn groups for finance and investment.  Charles was the Fine Dining and Wine Editor for Moscow’s Passport Magazine for eight years. He was also editor for other English language magazines in Russia including the Aeroflot inflight magazine, Russians: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow, and Russian Fine Art.
