Dear BBC Members, The American Chamber of Commerce in Russia in conjunction with the British Business Club will hold a special social event at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, dedicated to celebration of Alexander Pushkin’s birthday. The event will be held at Pushkin House Museum on Old Arbat Street (Arbat street 53, Smolenskaya metro station).
The event will feature a meeting with Julian Henry Lowenfeld, an American poet, playwright, composer, best known for his translations of Alexander Pushkin's poetry into English. He will present his book “My Talisman: The Poetry & Life of Alexander Pushkin.”
Lowenfeld studied Russian literature at Harvard, did postgraduate work at St. Petersburg University and then obtained his law degree at New York University. Lowenfeld's translations of Alexander Pushkin received overall positive reviews and considered to be 'the most brilliant and fullest translation of Pushkin's works because Lowenfeld succeeded in preserving original and distinctive rhythms of most poems so one can easily recognise which poem this is without any knowledge of English.
